Is there a genuine resale market for TimeShares?

Posted on January 31, 2010.

Mistake number 1, I bought a timeshare in Virginia in 2004 and have never used it. Now I am trying to sell it on one of these “sell my timeshare” sites (mistake #2) for another $499 and have gotten no responses in one and a half months. Am I grasping at straws here to sell it?

There is a limited market. And what market there is is generally much less than what the original buyer paid.

If you consider the fact that the timeshare you own probably still has unsold inventory, and that exchange programs expand the inventory considerably, it’s easy to see that the resale market is limited.

There’s a reason timeshares are being marketed as a cheaper way to vacation rather than a legitimate investment.
